Dog Breeds That Don’t Shed

Dog Breeds That Don’t Shed

Furry dogs are charming.

But if you can’t cope with dog’s fur problems, or you’ve experienced allergic reactions to inhaling or swallowing dog’s fur: the nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and sneezing, there’s still lots of hope.

There are different dog breeds that you may choose from

Some dogs have a single coat and they shed a lot, while others don’t even shed at all.

If you only have problems with a lot of shedding but don’t mind a little fur, the following single coat breeds and light shedding breeds might be just right for you:

1. Lowchen, the Boston terrier
2. Havanese, Dachshund
3. Tibetan Shih Tzu and Spaniel
4. Greyhound, Yorkshire Terrier
5. Whippet
6. Pug
7. German short-haired pointer
8. Lhasa Apso
9. the Bulldogs e.t.c.

If you want to avoid furs in your home, you’ve to look beyond light shedding breeds.

There are not many hairless breeds, but their population is growing with crossbreeding as more people show interest in them as exotic pets.

Hairless Breeds

If you can’t cope with even a little amount of shedding and you want no shedding around your home, some breeds will be just perfect for you.

These breeds have a gene mutation that makes growing hair a rare occurrence.

These breeds’ lack of gene can also be so dominant that it’s passed to offspring from crossbreeding.

The hairless breeds are relatively rare, and owning hairless dogs is fast becoming fancy.

Some hairless dog owners choose them for allergy reasons, while others prefer them because of the growing exciting feeling and public attraction associated with owning one.

Hairless breeds are generally low-maintenance but are exposed to things a fur would naturally protect against.

They can’t stay in the sun for a long time else they’ll get sunburns.

They may also get rashes from staying in grasses or bruises from rubbing their skin against hard surfaces.

The hairless skin requires protection, getting a sunscreen to prevent sunburns or a jacket from providing warmth.

Also, ensure a regular bath to keep the hairless skin healthy.

Hairless breeds are not many, they include:

1. American Hairless Terrier
2. Peruvian Inca Orchid
3. Argentine Pila
4. Chinese Crested
5. Xoloitzcuintli ( also called Mexican Hairless Dog)

People often think that getting a hairless dog will help to eradicate the risk of allergic reactions completely, but this isn’t true at all.

Most people who experience allergic reactions around dogs are allergic to the fur and the dog’s saliva and its dander.

However, hairless dogs can help reduce the risk of allergy when compared with furry dogs.
